Let’s spitball, shall we?!

File this under NEED for my office to house tile samples.  Plus it tickles my nostalgic pickle and reminds me of an 80’s card catalog-esque something in the Burris Library. {via Dovetail Furniture / to the trade only.  Contact me for pricing.}

I ONLY love / wear jewelry that’s either an everyday timeless staple, or a really unique antique something-or-other.  I feel like this GORGEOUS herringbone diamond ring checks both boxes.

I’ve had to source a TON of antique oushaks / kilims / anatolian rugs this year for clients, and I accidentally bought this stunner last week while pounding said rug pavement.  Finding the good ones takes some hunting down, but they’re so worth it.  This is so gorgeous in person I can’t even tell you.

oushak-rug

Can I do this to my eyelids on New Years Eve? Crested Butte prob isn’t ready for that, but I’m doin’ it anyway. Cuz there’s no other day of the year when you can get away with either dressing like it’s the 80’s, or dressing like a ho bag. Except maybe Halloween.

blue-eyeshadow

Obsessed with this matte black Ilve range.

ilve-freestanding-range-matte-black

This is heaven. So mountain chic it’s not even right.

Probably the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen.

Spring Greens & Orecchiette pasta dish via Cup of Jo, whom I trust for just about anything.  Can’t wait to try.  The roughage balances out the carbs… right?

DAMN is this good advice.  I saw this quote a few months ago and it resonated with me in about 99 different ways, because I feel like it’s the common denominator of all the lessons I’ve learned in the past 5 years or so… Protect your peace by kindly stepping away from toxic situations / people… protect your peace by setting boundaries and setting the right expectations, personally and professionally… protect your peace by knowing there’s a solution for everything, so remember not to panic, because everything always works out… protect your peace by doing the best you can every day but beyond that, knowing that you can’t worry about what you can’t control. Yadda yadda.

Tabarka can do no wrong for me.  This one is Touareg 8 and it’s kinda moody and I’m smitten.

touareg-8-in-charcoal

Obsessed with this photo I saw on Pinterest – so calming.  I would blow this up (way oversized) and slap it in my dining room. Or anywhere, for that matter.

I couldn’t tell you if Anthro’s upholstery is comfortable, but the 90’s Central Perk Friends lover in me loves this velvet chesterfield of theirs. I ordered the fabric swatch (Color: Forest) and it’s TO DIE FOR.

screen-shot-2016-12-13-at-12-50-52-pm

I’d also take ANY piece of furniture covered in this stunning color of blue velvet.

zara-shoes-need-in-sofa

Maybe not a huge sofa but something vintage and bad a$$ – like these vintage Billy Haines loungers:

Gotta use these antique brass pulls somewhere.  Would be boss on a darker piece of furniture (e.g. deep deep navy or a grey, like maybe Farrow & Ball’s Down Pipe).

antique-brass-cabinet-pull

Preach sistah.  Truer words were never spoken.  I CANNOT believe I’m 35 years old. Like, cannot.  I think 1990 was 10 years ago and remember **every single** detail of the 3rd grade like it was yesterday.  My point being, dang that’s a good reminder not to squander ONE SINGLE opportunity you have, because time flies. And whatchoogotta be scared of?  ‘Sides nothing.

take-every-chance

Tricky to find a cement tile you haven’t seen on the Pinterest merry-go-round 997x, but this Taza pink & burgundy one is new to me, and I’m in love.

taza-pink-cement-tile

I’ve also seen this guy’s black & white counterpart too many times to count, but in this blue hue?  It’s a little bit different (and somehow edgier) – and I love it.

I didn’t even know I liked waffles until I read CORNBREAD WAFFLES WITH MASCARPONE SCHMEAR.  I repeat: CORNBOARD WAFFLES WITH MASCARPONE SCHMEAR.

I need this t-shirt IMMEDIATELY.

img_4548

I love the materials and color palette they used for this exterior.

I saw this rug, gasped, then ordered the other half of my brain aka Karrie to buy this rug for her master bath last week, and I’m chomping at the bit for it to come in the mail.  We needed something warm with some color and texture to give us another layer in there, and this was the missing puzzle piece. #obsessed

And there she blows in person:

THESE PENDANTS.  I can’t take it.  They’re obviously antiques and I obviously need them.

brass-pendants That’s a pretty bouquet and a pretty dress.  I’m a chick so naturally I love all things wedding – just love much simpler things the older I get.  I’m pretty sure if I’d gotten married at 24 I would’ve had a Cinderella ballgown and fussed over everything; now I hope if / when I get married it’s the most beautifully understated, unfussy and stupidly fun thing ever.  Also – that photograph is by India Earl, whose work I LOVE.

I stalked India Earl some after I saw that image above on Pinterest, and loved everything she does:

Prettiest patina on brass I ever did see. To the trade / holla for pricing.

Love the unique shape of this ottoman / stool by Gabby.  These are so versatile at the foot of the bed, flanking a sofa table behind the sofa to pull around for extra seating when you need it, perched adjacent to the sofa in front of a coffee table, etc.

If you’ve never looked at Gregorius Pineo, take a looksy.  Supah spendy but so great for inspo.

Um. This is blueberry lavender coconut ice cream. Which sounds about as amazing to me as living on a farm of golden retriever puppies and eating bread & butter without getting fat.

Speaking of goldens OHMYGYASH IT’S A BABY GUS IN A BICYCLE BASKET I CAN’T DEAL.

This side table from CFC is BALLER.  It’s kinda huge for a side table – 36″W x 32″H (most sofa arm heights are at about 25″), but it’s so killer I wanna find a project to use it in.

cfc-table I want this, even though I know it’s totally ridiculous.  To dress up my skinny H&M jeans & white t-shirts & heels.

I accidentally bought these sparkly stilettos a few weeks ago. Because they’re the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.  You see a lotta sparkly heels out there, but up close these are like, DIAMOND ENCRUSTED and perfect.  I also scored them on eBay for about 70% off which is the only reason I sprang (or is it sprung?) for em.  Can you say New Years Eve?

Prettiest front door color I’ve ever seen.  With some festive eucalyptus… and those BELLS.

Sorry to still be on the Susan Connor train, but I’m OBSESSED with her textiles.  Just got these swatches in the mail and I’m sopping up drool over them, with them. Especially in love with the one on the right – it’s got this worn-in perfect denim color. img_5212

Behold… the beauty of a patina’d unlacquered brass shower system. From Waterworks.

Overstock.com isn’t my go-to for rugs, but they’ve been putting out some decent tribal rugs lately for around/under $1k.  Like this one I just put in a dude’s office.

Dunno if it’s new or just new to me – from Phillip Jeffries (the king of grasscloth) – but I love it.  Timeless and simple without being boring.

GET IN MY HOUSE.  LOOK AT THAT STOVE PEOPLE. { via elements of style insta – I LOVE Erin Gates for being hysterical and soulful/down to earth, and having great taste.  Hers is one of the few blogs I still read, and one of the instas I always go direct to to see what she’s been up to. }

This is hers too.  See what I mean.

I need this.

TAKE ME TO HERE IMMEDIATELY.  My design friends RAVE about this little shop in Newport Beach.  I could punch myself in the face for not having made it there yet.

Love this piece from Dovetail Furniture (to the trade only – contact me for pricing). The simple detail on the doors is gorgeous, but the metal keeps it gender-neutral. I’d use it as a TV stand, a sideboard in a dining room, an entry piece… anything.

Remind me to do this to my front door next year.

Ace Ventura for the win.  Truer words have REALLY never been spoken. screen-shot-2016-12-17-at-8-19-04-am

Also pretty sure I’ve never met a Kelly Wearstler for Visual Comfort light fixture I haven’t coveted.

Doing a Gentleman’s Bar right now, and using these as the backsplash.  Boom.

Just saw this stone at Cabochon La Jolla last week and had to actually ask if it was marble (…it is).  But the linear quality to it made me think it was quartzite, so I was all kindsa confused.  In any case, I LOVE love loved it for all the variation in (monochromatic) tone, for the warmth of it and for its veining.  They said it’s super unique, and because I’m an A-hole, I can’t even remember what it’s called. #epicfail

Recently discovered Mister Zimi on insta and trying to choose which of their suits I wanna get for January’s Mexico trip is like trying to choose a favorite star in the sky.

When you wanna go classic / white but are sick of subway tile.  Hallelujah for Tabarka and their picket fence-esque number.  So cozy and so not boring. {via}

Can you even?  I can’t.  Merry CHRISTMAS!  Yep, I said it.  And can I say this outloud? …I’m annoyed that I feel like I have to kind of watch my mouth and can’t even say or sign my emails this time of year with “MERRY CHRISTMAS!” anymore, because I’m afraid I’m going to offend someone.  Can’t we all JYEST settle down and appreciate that there’s kindness in that sentiment and that people mean well when they say it?? If somebody passed me and said “HAPPY KWANZAA!” or “HAPPY HANUKKAH!!” with a toothy grin on their face, I’d be inclined to feel warm & fuzzy on the inside and smile back and be like, “right back atcha buddy!”; not to get my little white cotton underpanties in a big fat wad.  Just sayin’.  Pretty sure there are more important things to fuss over.  So Merry Merry, people!

Steph’s 2016 Holly-day Gift Guide

steph-gift-1

steph-gift-2

What are we, 7?  Because who in their right mind makes a Santy Claus list anytime after – oh, I dunno – 3rd grade graduation?  …Slash, let’s be honest: who doesn’t love a good gift guide?  So on that note, Karrie and I are kicking off gift guides this season with – you guessed it!  Our favorite picks.  The older we get, the tougher these are to make because – truth be told – we *kinda* already have everything we really need.  That said… here are mine… Happy Shopping Mom & Dad! fjdkjfkdlsjaklfjak;ja

1 – Kiini Pink Bikini: This particular all-pastel pink one is discontinued, so I have faint hopes of finding it on eBay someday.  But as a close second Kiini fave, I also love its bright yellow counterpart: Ro (top) + Ro (bottom).

kiini-in-pink

2 – The Southerner’s Cookbook, from the Editors of Garden & Gun: Because ever moving back to the east coast / to my former homeland of Charleston is hard to imagine, but maybe I can teleport there and scratch that itch by whipping up a few ditties from this cookbook.

southerners-cookbook

3 – Lips Dish, $38.  Because is there a more adorable (or incognito) way to stow your busted-looking crusty ‘ol retainer by the bedside?  I think not.

Ceramic ring cone and dishes made by hand

4 – Inlay Cushion in Lake/Natural, Susan Connor New York, $159 for 14″ x 24″ – Because I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this pillow for – oh – YEARS, and have blogged about it probably 17 times.  *COUGH* a pair of these wouldn’t suck. #affluenza… but for real.  Susan Connor’s prints are amazing.

inlay-cushion-covet-living

5 – Ditch Plains Surfers by Christine Flynn, 48″ x 36″, $379 $311 thru Cyber Monday! – One Kings Lane is my go-to for artwork, and this photograph reminds me of my backyard in San Diego.  Love!

ditch-plains-surfers

6 – Paradise Ring, ca. 1910, price upon request – …”price upon request” are three REAL scary little words, I know.  But I meeeeeaan – it’s got green opals & sapphires & pearls (!!!) and it’s an antique, which means it’s got some provenance to it, and it also means every other floozy in town won’t have it.

arts-and-crafts-ring

7 – H&M Super Low / Super Skinny Jeans in Denim Blue, $39 – These are my favorite jeans, ever.  I currently have a pair at the dry cleaner being stitched up for the umpteenth time because I love them so much.  Soooooo maybe it’s time for a new pair.  *COUGH* size 29/32.

hm-super-low-super-skinny

8 – Nespresso VertuoLine Evoluo Deluxe with Aeroccino Plus, $209 THRU SUNDAY 11/27 – Because coffee is probably my favorite part of the morning, and I love the taste of my French pressed coffee, but hate how long it takes to make.  And if more than 1 person wants a cup you gotta boil the whole thing all over again.  Love the instant grat of this bad boy, and the fact that it makes coffee AND espresso. Whatever tickles your pickle.  NOTE TO SANTA: THIS CONTRAPTION IS THE MVP ON THIS LIST.  UPDATE: THIS HAS BEEN PURCHASED BY SANTA.

nespresso-vertuoline-evolou-deluxe

9 – Vina Electric Salt & Pepper Mill (Pack of 2), $25 – Manually grinding enough pepper for most recipes takes eons – ain’t nobody got time for that.  The most important feature on this thing (imo) is the adjustable grind.  The price for the pair of these is also AMAZING, and the reviews are spot on.  #yesplease

vina-grinder

10 – Buttery Leather Mac Book Air Portfolio, $175 – I think I put this guy on my list every year.  Totally not a necessity, but I do love the simple, subtly sophisticated utility of it.

macbook-case

11 – Grey & Fur Pom Slouchy Beanie, $40 – The 7-year old inside of me NEEDS this.

slouchy-beanie-hat

I also love this one from Kate Spade… very Fraggle Rock chic, and sure to keep my dome toasty in the mountains this winter.

kate spade colorblock beanie

12 – Pomengranate Citrus Candle, $32 – I bought this last year for a friend and then totally wanted to steal it.  Looks so pretty lit up because of the faceted pink glass, and smells like heaven.

pomengranate-citrus

13 – Magnetic iPhone Ring, $20 – These were all the rage with our friends in NYC a few weeks ago, and I didn’t get it at first… and then I realized that it’s a handy way to hang onto it without dropping it, that you can set it up on its side whenever you need to (I dunno, read a recipe while you’re cooking or watch Hulu online).  Also mounts to your dashboard so you can be hands-free.  Which you know yo mama loves.

iphone-ring

14 – Rifle Paper Scarlett Birch 17-Month Planner, on sale for $24 – Because I’m one of those old schoolers who still likes to write down appointments & such vs. putting them in my phone.

plm003-2017-scarlett-birch-01_3

15 – Chloé Hudson Small Braided Suede Saddle Bag, $-at-least-a-few-ovaries – I mean, it’s totally on sale for $1,450.  On eBay.  What kind of list would this be if I couldn’t throw a pipe dream or two in?

chloe-light-blue-mini-hudson-bag

16 – Ahava Dermud Intensive Hand Cream, $28.50 – I feel like my hands are never not chapped – whether is from salt water or dishes or laundry or cold weather – and I’m telling ya – this hand cream will save the skin on your paws’ life.  PS did you know the skin on your face, neck and hands ages the fastest?  Take heed, people.

dermud-intensive-hand-cream

17 – Cape Recycled Red Wine Glasses, on sale for $24 (set of 4) – Love these. Lovelovelove.  More interesting-looking than your every day wine glasses but still totally classic.

red-wine-glass

17.5 – Vintage French champagne flutes by Luminarc, Set of 6, $41 – Perfection.

set-of-6-vintage-green-glass-champagne-flutes

18 – American Rustic, $38 – I’ve been spending more time in the mountains this year, and I’m starting to embrace the aesthetic there… slash it’s already kinda in my bones, what with having Stevie B for a Pa & all.  Anyhow – I flipped thru this book at one of my favorite Solana Beach outposts the other day, and EVERY page was so so good.

american-rustic-book

19 – Balloon Sleeve Pullover, 30% off of $98 with code LETSGO – This is SO SOFT I CAN’T STAND IT.  And really pretty on.  The shape is ever-so-slightly 80’s.  AKA my favorite decade, ever.  Size S, Color: Blue Motif or Black.

balloon-pullover

19.5 – Madewell Ryder Cardigan, $75 with code THATSALE – This feels like BUTTAH. I repeat: buttah.  Shocking that it’s not cashmere.  I always struggle in the winter to find warm, cozy sweaters that aren’t bulky / are still mildly cute and don’t swallow you whole.  This is one of ’em.  Throw a cami under it, belt it, live in it – whatever. Looks longer & leaner in person.  Size S, Heather Fog.

madewell-ryder-cardigan

19.75 – Driftweave Pullover Sweater, $75 with code THATSALE – ah balls while I’m at it this one is great too.  So adorbs.  Size S or M.

driftweave-pullover

20 – Pink Beanie, $16 – For milder weather… not so much arctic tundra.

pink-beanie

21 – Color Club Nail Polish in Poptastic Pink, $5.50 – I saw this in the nail salon in NYC the other day, and it was all I could do not to throw Fall colors to the wind and slap this on.  Maybe log this for your winter getaway – even if that getaway is a mental one when it’s negative 7 degrees outside in January.

poptastic-pink

22 – Coconut Milk Bath Soak, $32 – This stuff is DUHLICIOUS.  I snapped some up last year when I was primping for a Christmas party, and took a pre-game soak in it. It’s no joke.  I think I ran thru it in a week cuz it made me wanna take a bubble bath every night.

coconut-milk-bath-soak

23 – Italian Leather Coin Purse, on sale for $18 with code HOLIDAY – I need a business card holder real bad, because I’m ALWAYS THE GIRL WHO FORGETS TO CARRY THEM.  What I like about this one (which is actually a coin purse) is that the little strap on it can hook around the strap of my work bag, so I always have it with me.  Otherwise I’ll leave it at home and/or it’ll get lost in the bottom of said bag / the abyss.

coin-purse-jcrew

24 – Ugg Dakota Slipper in Tabacco, $99 – Because these are the warmest your feet will ever be in the winter.

screen-shot-2016-11-27-at-3-55-55-am

25 – Spa Day, $ PRICELESS – You can pretty much throw everything on this list out the door in exchange for a SPAAAAA DAAAAYYYYY.  Haha j/k… sort of.  I’m not fancy enough that I’ve ever spent an entire day at a swanky spa, but I do know that great places in San Diego to get coiffed & buffed & such are: Beauty Lounge for mani pedis, Rhonda at Dr. Libs’ Chiropractic office for medical massage (it’s UNREAL, people), or Arcona Los Angeles for facials (Esthetician: Brandi Brown).

spa-day

26 – Distressed Oushak Runner, 4’7″ x 10’8″, $3915 – Again, it’s a pipe dream people.  I scour an AWFUL lotta oushaks for clients, and I’m telling ya: this one is a stunner.  It’s also slightly overpriced (but honestly, only slightly).  The thing that doesn’t suck about antique rugs is that unless you let your kids drop trow & pee on them and then never clean the things, they increase in value over time.  So I mean, it’s basically like an investment………….

screen-shot-2016-11-27-at-3-55-21-am

27 – Beyond Yoga Spacedye Performance Essential Long Leggings, on sale for $62 – Pretty sure I wouldn’t take these off till Springtime.  For inquiring minds: Color – Black/Steel or Black/Cobalt or Black/White.  Size M.

beyond-yoga-pant-2

That’s all I got!  And by that I mean, just wait till I read everybody else’s gift guides this coming week then pluck stuff off theirs that I never knew I always needed and edit this list.  HAAAAAA, I’m kidding.  I totally need nothing in real life.  Except immortality for GusGus and green juice and my hot yoga class and my people.  And also – that Nespresso.

xoxo!
