DIY: Upcycled Wicker Peacock Headboard

Found Wicker Peacock Headboard | Covet Living

I found this little fella across the street at a yard sale last year.  I always think these vintage peacock headboards look so sweet in kiddos’ rooms.  Plus, err-body’s so busy that it’s easy to get caught up in buying everything on page 59 of the Pottery Barn catalog and calling it a day, so I love it when you get to inject things that are a little more unique – and maybe a little time worn – to give a room some soul.

I actually love it as-is, and the au naturel route has its charms.  This one – in a Hamptons Designer Showhouse room by Sara Bengur Interiors (which is perfect, btw) – is in a darker stain that gives it an island-y feel, which I love.

Remodelista also shared this pic from Ruschmeyer’s in Montauk, which shows ta go ya that you can keep the headboard neutral and just dress up the bed with bold pillows.

Or if you ever needed a reason to love wicker’s natural finish, there’s this.  BANG.

But I’m also thinking of rolling up my sleeves and giving it a fresh coat of something awesome… maybe for one of my knocked-up pals.  It’s been done in everything from ROY to G to BIV:

What do you guys think??  I love it in hot pink and in green.  OR in this peachy pink perfection – which would be so sweet for a little girl’s room…

…with layers of whites and creams and maybe some charcoal grey on the bed.  Like this Boho-went-to-heaven fabric (Sedona Ikat in Java by Beacon Hill), which is about as $$$ per yard as your kid’s first year of college… but it’s good for inspiration:

If you’re looking to do the wicker thing, there’s a few on ebay for $200 and up.  But I would suggest keeping your eye on Craigslist, Estate Sales, and yes – my old faithful – the Goodwill.

xoxo!

Estate Sale Round 2: Steph’s Home Decor!

THERE’S MORE!  (Lots and LOTS more).  Still packing and MAJORLY downsizing.  I sold through almost everything from last week’s post in 1 day.  Everything (except furniture – local Columbus, OH pick-up only) can be shipped.  Purchasing instructions at bottom of post.

LINEN SETTEE / BANQUETTE – $350 $300

Only a few months old and scarcely sat in.  Perfect Condition.  I have this as a banquette currently on one side of the dining table…

But you could also do it in an entryway, as a sofa in a studio/small apartment, or at the foot of a bed.  67″W x 30″D x 41″H

REFINISHED RESTORATION HARDWARE-ESQUE BOOKCASE – $300 OBO

I refinished this bad boy recently – the exterior is now cream, interior slate grey, and the hardware/brackets are rose gold.  3 adjustable shelves.  59″ tall x 46.5″ wide x 17.5″ deep.  I’ve used this as a kitchen pantry, a linen closet in the hallway (with cubbies), a bookshelf, an organizing station in a med room and a china cabinet.  Super sturdy and versatile.

CREAM DISTRESSED ARMOIRE / TV CABINET / WARDROBE – $700 $500 (retail: $1500)

This one pains me to sell…  Beautiful armoire / TV cabinet purchased from GDC in Charleston, SC for $1500. Cream distressed finish, 2 large drawers and upper & lower cabinets. I have always used this to house my TV, but it does have a bar inside for hangers, so you could use it as a wardrobe for the bedroom. We had to remove the moldings once to fit it through the door of my apartment in Chicago, so they are currently secured with thin nails. I would recommend gluing and permanently nailing these back in once this piece is situated in your home.  Craigslist link is HERE for more pics.  Dimensions:  47″ wide x 77″ tall x 28″ deep

SECTIONAL SOFA (2 pieces) – $500 OBO

Generally acknowledged to be the most comfortable couch on the planet.  Purchased from Bassett Furniture for $3000 a few years ago.  It’s recently been cleaned but it’s not a spring chicken and does have some wear.  I had this custom made in the most beautiful, cozy cream fabric, but came to realize that it pills, so the seat cushions are pilled pretty good.  All back cushions are down.  30″ height x 38″ deep x 108″ across back (on left if you’re looking at photo) and 86″ across right side

CERULEAN AND WHITE CURTAIN PANELS | PAIR | $125

Fully lined.  Rod pocket or can be hung by clips.  Would be really sweet in a kiddo’s room.  52.5″ wide x 96″ long.

MOROCCAN ARCH DELIA SHADES | Grey & White | 3 Panels – $100

I used these for a designer show house I did a few years back and have hung them in every house I’ve lived in since.  They are stunning…  super light weight, and the most amazing thing is that while they allow light in and don’t obstruct your view of the outdoors, you can’t see in through them from outside. Also, thought about adding a beautiful Neon Mama custom sign to lighten the mood.

ANTIQUE BROWN TRANSFERWARE | MISMATCHED SET OF 20 PCS. – $75

I used a few of these on my dining room wall in my house in Charleston (below).  Great to hang, or to use at Thanksgiving.

Small Plates (qty: 16)

Large Plates (qty: 4)

VINTAGE “CHICAGO MY KIND OF TOWN” TUMBLER SET – $20

CLEAR GLASS HOBNAIL DRINKING GLASSES (2 large, 1 small) – $25

Really hard to find.

FUNNY FACE POSTER (Professionally Framed) – $40

Distressed silver frame.  White Mat.  19.5″ wide x 23.5″ tall.

SILVER LEAFED NOTRE MONDE MIRRORED TRAY – $100 OBO (retail: $500 – see similar to show here)

Gorgeous designer tray.  I used it to corral liquor decanters on the bar in the dining room.

TOSS GARMENT BAG – $25 (retail: $151)

Sadly never used this.  I just found it in storage.  Details / dimensions here.

BRONZE & CRYSTAL CHANDELIER – $100 $75

14″ x 14″.  So sweet.  One of the bulbs/candles is currently out – I think it’s an easy electrical fix but it’s beyond my expertise.  I’ve had this looking pimp in a closet, and would also be sweet in a nursery or powder room.  eBay listing HERE if you wanna go that route.

NEW(ISH) WHIRLPOOL 3.4 CU. FT TOP LOAD WASHER & 7 CU. FT. ELECTRIC DRYER – $700 (RETAIL: $1000)

For details/specs: Washer | Dryer

Who needs an ALMOST brand new Washer/Dryer?  So sad to leave this little push-button bad boy.  Just purchased in 2012.

STAINLESS MICROWAVE – $50

Almost brand new.  Whirlpool.  Clean as a whistle.
