House Beautiful

I Dream of Fall.

Moving to Cali from the Midwest was a great idea in February…  when it was below freezing, and the kind of grey for about the 4th month in a row that can only be described as soul breaking.  And I’m sure in a few months when there’s a solid sheet of ice covering Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan, I’ll feel that way again (have you heard this winter is supposed to be even more brutal than last??  I didn’t even know there was such a thing).  Nonetheless, for the past week or so, I have been ACHING for the Fall… (BIG exhale)… Is there anything better??

Maybe it’s because college football started last weekend, and after huffing it through the bustling, Saturday morning city streets, I was posted up in a bar at 9am with a cold Bloody Mary in hand, surrounded by my good Midwest people and the sound of 1st downs and whistles tweeting.  Maybe it’s because I spent Labor Day Weekend in San Francisco – where the morning air was cool and crisp and fresh, and leaves were already falling.

Or maybe it’s because it’s Fashion Week in New York and back-to-school time… which makes me want to inhale bouquets of freshly sharpened #2’s and dress like this:

And it makes me wanna traipse around city streets in the morning, like this…

Le sigh…  If anyone needs me, I’ll be burning pumpkin spice candles, sipping pumpkin spice lattes, carving pumpkins, making chili and cranking up the AC to 50 degrees so I can sport plaid flannel whilst I watch Rudy on repeat.  For the next 3 months 🙂  Just kidding…  I’ll be drowning my sorrows in saltwater.  At the beach.

  • Your last two sentences – epic. This is the time of year I miss Oregon the most. Love yer face!

  • I feel for you, Stephanie. Fall is the best time of the year in the Midwest, right down to the Pumpkin Spice hand soap at Bath and Body. You know, you could come home for a visit towards the end of October. But, saltwater at the beach doesn’t sound so bad either.

  • I feel your pain. I moved from Massachusetts to Florida twelve years ago and I was just about over the weather. I miss fall so badly. My Pinterest boards are filled with pictures of adorable cardigans, boots and jeans. My reality- 3 more months of 90 plus degree weather!

  • *Le sigh* Oh Steph, you never do let me down. I love your posts about fall (and pretty much anything else you girls post, duh) because it’s also my favorite time of year and you always put into words exactly why it should be. I’ll take in some extra fall amazingness back here in Indiana for ya!
