This Is Dedicated To The One I Blog With

Because it is -89 degrees windchill in the city she currently calls home, because she’s got a wicked intense week comin’ up, and because, well, she’s the bestest friend and co-bloggizle a gal could ask for, this week’s playlist is dedicated to the one, the only…. Stephy poo woo woo.

As I witness the occasional lemon being lobbed her way and each time her ability to grab it, squeeze it and mix it with some ingredients to make a perfectly sweet lemonade, I admire her time and time again for her resiliency.  And somethin’s a brewin’, cause I can just feel amazing things headed her way in ’11.

So here, made ‘specially for you Wabbit, is my latest playlist to get you motivated and amped for what’s in store.  Mwah!

1. 127 Hours Soundtrack – Free Blood – Never Hear Surf Music Again – Go see this movie, a) and b), buy this soundtrack!  Composed by A.R. Rahman, the same guy behind the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack, these tunes take you right to the deep canyons of Utah, alongside James Franco’s character.  Bless his little heart.  This tune opens the movie.

2. Fitz and the Tantrums – Money Grabber – Get up off yer feet and JAM!  This LA-raised band’s lead singer, Michael Fitzpatrick, has a little bit of Bowie, a little bit of George Michael, and a LOT of soul and charisma.  Love this video, love the female lead singer’s voice.  I actually don’t mind when I get this song stuck in my head for a week straight.

3. Mark Ronson – I Want Somebody To Love Me – Last time I read about Boy George he was picking up trash for a community service stint for imprisoning some male escort.  Hey, we all have our off weeks.  So anyway, music producer extraordinaire Mark Ronson wrote this song as the 2011 answer to Culture Club’s 80s hit “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me.”  And it’s a winner.

4. Cee-Lo Green – Bright Lights Bigger City – You can bet your bottom dollar this is my new gettin-ready song of choice.

(This chick listened to Cee-Lo while getting ready)

5. Miike Snow – Animal – Who knew this energetic and lively lil’ song was about being a slave to money?  TRUTH.

6. Band Perry – If I Die Young – THE perfect new-ish country song.  So romantic and sweet.  Plus the guys in the band have MAJOR helmet hair.  It’s like Richard Marx was resurrected and put into the young twenty something bodies of these bassists. I digress.

7. Rihanna and Drake – What’s My Name – No, I’m not sick of this yet.  OOOH NANA!  WHAT’S MY NAME?!

8. Starfucker – Girls Just Want To Have Fun – Kitschy and fun remake of a classic.

9. Massive Attack – Unfinished Sympathy – Once again, I thank my lucky stars for working with a bunch of Brits who can school me on things like the superiority of British Kit Kat candy bars (they’re made with sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup!), traditions around the upcoming royal wedding (did you know there will be a national signature dish in honor of the royal wedding?) and, of course, music. Though this song came out when I was an 11-yr-old runt shuckin’ corn in the Midwest, the optimistic sounds of the combo of hip hop and electronica are timeless.

10. Guillemots – Made Up Love Song No. 43 – Wait for it… wait for it… At 1:09 it picks up and turns into a sweet, optimistic love song.  Who is that ador lead singer, by the way?  Stephy, go date him.

11. Nikki Minaj – Your Love – Listen, I’m looking for the urban answer to Lady Gaga just as much as the rest of you, but I have *not* felt Nikki Minaj the way the rest of everyone seems to.  It took approximately 4 months for me to dig this song, then it just… kinda… happened.  Fine Nikki Minaj, you win.

Here’s to the start of a brand new week, and to Steph, who’s got a big fan (in a leetle Sheep’s body) rooting for her from sunny Cali.
