“Note to Self: None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Eat the delicious food. Walk in the sunshine. Jump in the ocean. Say the truth that you’re carrying in your heart like hidden treasure. Be silly. Be kind. Be weird. There’s no time for anything else.” -Nanea Hoffman

Recently, and I don’t know if it’s because it seems like all of my friends are having kids these days and have to be uber responsible and worry about the welfare of a small human being or two – but heading into my later 30s I’m noticing more and more a lot of control amongst my friends. Control of their diet; control of the money they spend; no more girls trips; a lack of treating themselves just a bit. I’m watching as we all turn into real adults with mortgages, children, senior positions at jobs many are ambivalent about but still as anxiety-ridden and stressed over. As life rattles by at warp speed it seems like a lot of us have such extreme discipline over our lives.

But one thing I’ve thought about a lot recently is, as much as one’s life gets progressively more serious, and you find yourself lying awake in bed with more thoughts racing through your mind then ever before, is life is a series of small moments to savor, even if for a few minutes. I love this quote because it’s a reminder that life is way, way, way too short not to make yourself a priority, not to make yourself happy in whatever small ways you can.

Get the dessert. Let your in-laws watch your baby so you can go on an overnight with your man. Go to yoga cause it always made you feel good. Have drinks with your girlfriends because it feeds your soul. Buy the top you see on Pinterest and don’t feel guilty. Tell your relatives how much you love all of them. Use up your nine lives and feel proud at the end of your life that you savored every moment you could.

And with that… time to start my day.

Happy Hump Day y’all!

xoxo,
