“The greatest weakness of most humans is their hesitancy to tell others how much they love them while they’re alive.” – Orlando A. Battista

I can’t tell you how much lately I’ve been thinking about how my family is not going to be around forever. Maybe it’s that my life seems to be quietly and quickly passing by like the sand through the Days of our Lives hourglass; maybe it’s because last week a friend lost his beloved mom, way too quickly.

I don’t know when this thought started creeping into my head and banging my inner thoughts like a slowly building drum, but lately I’m very aware how lucky I am to have both parents, my grandma, my favorite uncles… alive. Here on Earth to pick up the phone.

We can’t slow time; we can’t keep our parents from aging. But what we can do is tell them and those we love how much we love them. I plan to do this even more.

  • Almost made me cry. I miss my Mom and Dad daily. I regret I didn’t take the time to call or visit them more often. Learn from my mistakes! God Bless.

  • Lovely and you’re so right. My family was never big on demonstratives although we knew we were loved. Maybe because we grew up with the World Trade Center on the horizon or that friends and family survived 9/11. But since that day, we say “Love you” at the end of every phone call and with every good-bye hug. Because you never know.

  • My darling daughter, at the end of the day I feel so blessed for you and my family, love you forever
