Listen, Eat, Wear, See, Read. Repeat.

It’s Friday, friends! And I’m gonna try and start a lil’ weekly post with all my favorite things for the week: Some food, some tunes, some fashion, a good book. You know, all that makes like good. Without further ado, here’s a smattering of stuff I’m excited about:

LISTEN: “The Sound” by 1975 is your new, infectiously fun gym tune:

EAT: Peanut Butter Brownies courtesy of Handle the Heat:

Choc PB brownies from Handle The Heat

Baked by Satan. Just kidding. But I’d sell my first born to him to get a plate of these.

WEAR: This Vici Bardot Maxi Dress is exactly what I’ve been looking for, and I predict it’s gonna be sold out in 5 minutes, since in the past 20 minutes it’s gone down to just one size – Small:

SEE: The First Monday in May, a new documentary opening in theaters tonight. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the 2015 Met Gala. Ya know, basically the Super Bowl for fashion. Which Anna Wintour presides over. Who is the scariest woman on the face of the planet. And also one of the most fascinating people to watch in action. Check out the trailer:

READ: “When Breath Becomes Air” by Paul Kalanithi:

When Breath Becomes Air via Cup of Jo

Currently a NY Times bestseller, this memoir was written by Kalanithi, a 36-year-old neurosurgeon who was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer and suddenly found himself not as the surgeon dealing with the dying, but the terminal patient facing his own mortality. I just finished it and I gotta say, as sad as it sounds (and is, at times), it’s also really uplifting in a way. And just very beautiful.

That’s it for this week! Steph and I are joined in LA this weekend by our third bestie, Melissa… the girl we’ve known since we were wee ones in Indiana. The girl whose home we’ve collectively spent 100,000 hours at, who was the base to my lift in cheerleading. She’s here for work, and tonight we’re gonna celebrate her birthday by taking her out on the town. Life is good! Happy Friday all 🙂

This Week We’re Listening To…

THIS remake of Tracey Chapman’s “Fast Car” by Tobtok ft. River is a song I was initially hesitant to like. Blame a fierce, hot love of the original (I have memories of my uncle playing it to me on his guitar as a kid. I LOVE that song…) but hey, maybe a remake isn’t always such a terrible thing.

OH – and not only does this song transport me for a few minutes to somewhere a little more relaxed, a little more warm and tropical than my current surroundings, but the second part of why I have a fondness for this song is cause a young friend of mine in LA, Cory, is working with the artist, and is the person who told me to check it out. Cory is a young 20-something I met a couple years ago after a mutual friend asked me to meet w/him when he had just moved to LA. He didn’t have a job yet so I asked him if he’d bartend at my birfday party (see below)… which was complete with a fake red carpet and Beyonce cut-out… because naturally that’s what everyone needs at their birfday parties. Fast forward two years and he’s a TOTAL hustler. In the span of a couple years he’s moonlighted as Nick Jonas’ assistant, Gavin DeGraw’s tour manager, dated a pop star (no, seriously), and is still the sweetest, kindest future music industry honcho you’ll ever meet.

Anywho, let me know what you think!
