Death, Taxes, and TARGET.

This past weekend Easter came a week early for me. As I’m wont to do, I do-si-do’d into my church Target for my various sundries, begging my inner willpower to resist temptations and not leave with a $250 credit card charge. (WHOOPS!) FAIL. I managed to leave with a Brinks truckload of goodies, because there are so many good things. I’ve rounded up a gaggle of ’em below, but hurry – you never know how long these deals are gonna last:

Women’s Cheri Pumps | Now $27.99 (reg $34.99)

Women's Cheri Sam and Libby pumps

How hot are these shoes?!  Right: On Cheat Chic (who you MUST follow). I literally can’t stop thinking about these shoes. It’s debatable how long I have to wear them until my dogs start barking, but they’re practically perfect.

Plaid print clutch wallet | $16.99

White clutch from Target

Because at some point I’mma have to ditch my beloved Grandma’s wallet I’ve been carrying since ’06… Or maybe I don’t, but this wallet’s adorbs.

Mossimo Footbed Sandals in Gold | $19.99 (reg $24.99)

Hi Birkenstock, meet your sassy hippy cousin who’s WAY less $$$ than you.

Women’s Reversible Tote Handbag: $36.99

Perfect for a work bag.  There are a bunch of fun colors to choose from, too.

Faribault for Target Wool Striped Shawl | $29.98 (reg. $59.99)

Wool Shawl - Prairie Stripe

Something tells me this won’t be available online much longer. It’s way marked down, and way cute as a sweet little wrap.  Steph bought one similar at a cute boutique and I steal it whenever possible.

Pom Pom Kimono Jacket | $22.99

Pom Pom Kimono Jacket

Kimono and Karrie | Target | Covet Living

Right now Tarjay’s got kimonos for days, and they’re cuuuute. Right: Moi, a couple weekends ago in this Kimono I snapped up. I get compliments whenever I wear it!

Solid Fedora Hat in Brown | $16.99 (reg. $24.99)

Mossimo Fedora Hat in Brown + Karrie | Target | Covet Living  You guys, this hat is just perfect. Right: Again, sporting it last weekend. Plus there are a couple others here and here. Whether you’re wearing these to a festival this year or while watching the kids around the pool, they’re so versatile and go with everything!

Women’s Carolyn Slip On | $19.99

Women's Carolyn Slip On | Target | Covet Living

Comfy and casual but very So Cal stylish

Women’s Woven Hobo Handbag with Tassels | $59.99

Women's Woven Hobo Handbag with Tassels at Target | Covet Living

It’s a smidge pricier than the usual Target fare but it’s just so cute. Muy on trend right now, too.

And last, the most controversial clothing pick yet, as all my friends think this new trend is ridonk but I think it’s kinda cute…. because I’m perpetually my 15 year old self….

Denim Overalls | $34.99

Denim Overalls | Target | Covet Living

Listen, I get it, Color Me Badd is no longer in heavy rotation and you’re dubious that overalls should once again be as well. But c’mahhhnnnn, if worn slightly more fitting, rolled at the bottom and NOT WORN WITH MULES like on the Target model above left, they can be cute and sporty.

Ok, that’s it for now… Has anyone seen anything cute on Tarjay I should be aware of? And I’m thinking of posting more regularly on the wicked cute stuff seen at the big red bullseye. Lemme know if you think that’s a good idea.

xoxo,

What to Wear: Home for the Holidays

I fly home for the holidays in 48 hours, and do you know what I’m currently doing? …Drinking coffee in slow-mo and staring at my empty suitcase (procrastinate much?) and a huge pile of laundry (whoops), because I have NO idea what to pack to brave the tundra for 2 weeks.  I feel like my closet is now brimming with white booty shorts, tank tops and flip flops, and I have lost track of all my cold-weather-wardrobe.  Or maybe Gus ate it.

It’s times like these where I feel pressured to go shopping and buy a bunch of new crap… but if I’m being financially responsible, I know I can (and should) work with what I’ve got.  Sometimes that seems daunting, but this is where the Mothership comes in…  I know we ALL use Pinterest for a gaggle of different things, but sometimes it has a sneaky way of making you feel really terrible about yourself… like you are a Frumpy McFrumperson and HAVE to buy everything you just pinned in order to keep up with the Joneses, Smiths & Supermodels of the universe… and that sucks.  (PS, I’m certain none of the chicks in the pictures I pin have eaten since 2002.)  But Pinterest can also be great for helping you rework what you already have in your wardrobe.  For instance…  every time I look at an outfit I’ve pinned and loved, if I break down the anatomy of that get-up, I realize that it’s really just a bunch of staples I actually already own – I’d just never thought to put them together that way before.  Here are the ensembles that are helping me pack:

ALL BLACK | CAMEL COAT | AVIATORS

BLACK TURTLENECK | DARK DENIM | FLATS

BLACK BLAZER | BOYFRIEND JEANS | STILHETTOS

OVERSIZED SCARF | DAD’S OLD SWEATER | DAD’S OLD PLAID SHIRT | WAYFARERS | SKINNY JEANS | POUCH

OVERSIZED SCARF | WHITE UNDERSHIRT | BLACK BLAZER | SKINNY JEANS | KITTEN HEELS | WAYFARERS

SEQUIN MINI | BLACK TIGHTS | ANY ‘OL SWEATER

DAD’S PLAID SHIRT | BOYFRIEND JEANS | STILHETTOS

CAMEL SWEATER | DARK SKINNIES | LEATHER JACKET | WOOL SCARF

SILK BLOUSE | STATEMENT NECKLACE | BLACK PANTS

THIN, EASY V-NECK | LAYERED NECKLACES | BOYFRIEND JEANS (OR ARE THESE FROM YOUR MOM’S CLOSET?  LET’S BE HONEST.)

STRIPED SHIRT | PLAID SCARF | CAMEL COAT | SKINNY JEANS

FLOUNCY SWEATER | CREAM DENIM

Now.  If you’ll excuse me, I have to use this list to go pack so that when I get home, I can leave all these things neatly tucked in my suitcase and live in my sweatpants for 2 weeks while I eat Pizza King, merrily stare at our tree and watch the Hallmark Channel.

Nonetheless – hopefully this helps get your wheels turning and helps you shake up what’s already in your closet… it’s like the wardrobe equivalent of rearranging furniture – you didn’t buy anything new, but it helps you feel like you did and keeps things fresh.  We love to tell you what to shop for and post wish lists & gift guides & such, but the truth is that we also all have bills to pay and people to buy gifts for. And if nothing else, can I pass along these wise words that my step-dad used to always say to me when I was in high school?

It’s not the clothes you wear, it’s how you wear ’em.”

Keep that in mind… that ease and confidence are the most important things you can wear.  And that material things aren’t really all that important.  That phrase has always stuck with me.  (Thanks Big Dave!)
