Room of the Week – 5.31.11

It’s not often that a room takes my breath away, but this airy, simplistic beauty from Maison et Demeure did just that last night.  And though this is relatively spare and unfussy, it somehow feels completely warm and completely lovely.

For starters, it’s got great bones – the all-white exposed brick wall and all that glorious natural light flooding the room.  I feel like if I lived in New York City in the summertime, this is what my apartment would look like.  Secondly, gurl.  Nothing fans my dress up quite like an artfully disheveled, all-white bed…  and some genius en France also layered what looks like an antique white lace matelassé on top, which is STUNNING in a “my grandmother gave me this” kind of way.   Third, I love the vintage / modern elements in the room – the Saarinen table and French bistro chair as nightstands, those copper and brassy-colored utilitarian sconces, the old school fan, and the cerulean blue rug that looks like the one we had on my kitchen floor when I was a kid.  Pop in a pair of striped PJ’s and a framed black and white photograph for good styling measure, and you’ve got a little slice of heaven.

Happy Tuesday!

HUSTLE!

…over to One Kings Lane.  Like, now.  Here are 2 great reasons why:

Kartell Stools, Pair $340 $99

Geometric Roman Shades, Pair $1200 $149

I couldn’t believe my eyes either.  Ruthie Sommers (designer extraordinaire) has superb taste, and today there is a gorgeous smathering of her handpicked faves over at OKL.  Some prices are look-but-don’t-touch steep, but the two gems above not only screamed Domino to me, but are fantastically priced.  My apologies if these have been swiped by the time you get there.

Happy Saturday!  I’m headed to meet my favorite co-blogger (who’s in town this weekend, yippee!) and my college bestie for Bloody Marys before the Cubs game.  Which means, kids…  it’s probably about to get sloppy.

xoxo,
